About Sigma Kappa at Michigan State University

The purpose of Sigma Kappa Sorority is to provide women lifelong opportunities and support for social, intellectual, and spiritual development by bringing women together to positively impact our communities. Sigma Kappa promotes personal growth, friendship, service, and loyalty to the Sorority. At Michigan State, Sigma Kappa is proud of having the highest grade point average for the past five semesters among the other twelve sororities. This chapter prides itself in its dedication to philanthropy, especially during Greek Week, in which Sigma Kappa has placed first or second for the past three years. With a beautiful house, a convenient location, and the capacity to house 54 women, the Sigma Kappa chapter house is located five minutes from campus on M.A.C. Recent social events include date parties to Pistons' games, corn-mazes, crush parties, spring formals at Walnut Hills Country Club and mixers on the Riverboat!

Philanthropy Event: Memory Walk

Sigma Kappa supports four main philanthropies. Sigma Kappa’s main philanthropies are Gerontology and the Alzheimer’s Association. To support these causes, Sigma Kappa participates in Memory Walk, a 5K walk/run on the Michigan State campus, and volunteers at local nursing homes. Sigma Kappa’s oldest philanthropy is the Maine Sea Coast Mission, which is supported because Sigma Kappa was founded in Maine in 1874. During the winter, several fishing villages in Maine are cut off from many necessary resources, and Sigma Kappa supports these areas by sending clothing, blankets, food, other household items, and monetary donations. Lastly, Sigma Kappas are conscience of their environment and global environmental issues in their support of Inherit the Earth. The chapter has even adopted a manatee named Whiskers to help in the effort to save endangered species.
