Greek Week
2009 Greek Week
This year, MSU Greek Week organized and hosted Relay for Life, Coaches versus Cancer Basketball Tournament, and Special Olympics.
2009 Benefiting Organizations
American Cancer Society - Over $237,000
Arts and Scraps - $3,000
Junior League of Lansing - $3,000
MyTEAM Triumph - $3,000
MSU Children’s Health Initiative - $3,000
Make-A-Wish Foundation - Over $7,000
Members of the Greek community pride themselves on their extensive time and money spent towards charitable causes. Towards the end of the school year, the Greek organizations come together to volunteer time outside their own chapter’s philanthropic events.
Every spring, a sorority and one large and small fraternity collaborate to form a Greek Week team. Each team then competes against one another in the week-long activities, helping to raise money along the way. Teams spend a great deal of time practicing for the four main competitions (listed below).
This event has also been a great opportunity for Greeks to involve members from the Michigan State and East Lansing communities. This spring, Victor Loomis, mayor of the City of East Lansing, showed his support for the Greek community by attending Relay for Life and judging Songfest.
Greek Week is a major highlight for Greek life at Michigan State. Members make a positive impact on many different organizations including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics and many more. These men and women of the Greek community raise thousands of dollars and often have first hand experiences with the individuals that benefit from their efforts.
